Growing up fishing the waters
in and around the Charleston area has been a wonderful experience over the past 30 plus
years. Anyone who knows me will tell you that, when Im not fishing, I am thinking
about fishing. Over the years I have developed a true love and respect for the Lowcountry
and the many wonderful opportunities to experience the outdoors and nature. I enjoy all
different types of fishing and am just as happy fishing for Redfish from a kayak on the
flats as I am trolling the bluewaters of our coast. I am a graduate of Winthrop College
with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Marketing. Many of my working
years have been spent in and around the fishing retail industry. I have worked with
Ludens Marine Supply and also managed the fishing department for Charleston Sports
for a number of years. These jobs have allowed me to gain knowledge from many other
fisherman and increase my knowledge of all different types of fishing equipment and the
companies they represent. Many people refer to Charleston as "Gods
Country" and I must say, I agree. We are truly blessed with a wonderful climate and
an abundance of natural resources. I have been privileged over the past several years to
introduce others to the sport of fishing and find great joy in taking people out and
seeing their expression when they hook a big King Mackerel or see 50 to 60 Redfish
schooling on a flat. |

I am a 35 year-old Charleston native who has been fishing in the
lowcountry since age three. Growing up I fished primarily on my dads
17-foot Boston Whaler, Sugar Babe, with my father, Vasco Pickett
Jr., and my bother Andy. While in high school I worked as a salesman
at the former John’s Rod and Reel where I met some of the best and
most knowledgeable fisherman in the state. At John’s I was able to
share fishing experiences and techniques with these top-notch
anglers enhancing my knowledge of the sport considerably. Upon
graduating James Island High School in 1991 I attended Clemson
University. During summer vacations and Christmas holidays, I worked
for Ludens selling marine hardware and outdoor clothing. Here I was
able to continue my working relationship with charter boat captains
and fishing guides further enhancing my knowledge. In 1996 I
graduated from Clemson with a BS in Biological Sciences and a minor
in Wildlife Management, and spent a short time working as a field
biologist for Swimming Rock Fish and Shrimp Farm. In 1997 I began
working as an Environmental Scientist for a local engineering firm.
As an Environmental Scientist, and a US Coast Guard Licensed
Captain, I worked with a Coastal Zone Management Group captaining a
30’ workboat and conducting hydrographic surveys, water quality
studies, and sediment sampling for marina and dredge permits. Though
I loved my time on the water I came to realize my true calling was
sales. In 2001 I joined the Pump and Power Division of Sunbelt
Rentals as an outside sales representative. After spending 4 years
in the field I moved into my current position of operations and
sales management with Sunbelt. These days I continue to fish every
opportunity I get. My wife enjoys spending time on the water as much
as I do; therefore, we fish inshore during the week after work and
offshore on weekends and on our days off. |

I am a 42 year old Charlestonian who grew up
on James Island, playing in the woods & climbing trees. At any early age, I started
raiding trash piles for old TVs & radios for spare electronics. In the early eighties,
computers started to become available to the average computer geek. I taught myself basic
programming and started experimenting with computer interfacing. After graduating from
Fort Johnson High, I studied computer programming, commercial graphics,
architecture, and acquired a degree in industrial drafting, specializing in CAD. After
many years in cubicles, I became manager of an art store and focused on art. I then went
on to work as a shipping manager for East Bay Gallery (a title that included sales,
construction, ordering, programming, & anything else that needed doing). In 1996 my
wife and I built our own store (Angel Hare) and I designed my first WebPages. I then
expanded into e-commerce HTML. When my brothers suggested starting a website, I took on
the project with great enthusiasm. I now design websites and build and
repair computer systems full time as
VWP Web Solutions. |
